THE ART OF SPREADING JOY
Joy Jitsu Fundamentals
As a practitioner of Joy Jitsu you will train in these fundamental areas along your journey.
-
Our first goal on this journey is understanding how perseverance is an element of joy. The theme of this section is embracing acceptance, and rejecting denial.
-
Life offers incredible experiences if you can see clearly enough to recognize them. With each thankful moment you recognize, your flame grows brighter and stronger.
-
Authenticity happens when we drop the mask, stop trying to please everyone, and accept ourselves. When we understand and embrace who we are without feeling like we need to apologize for it, we find our internal North. Authenticity lights up our path forward. It helps us to recognize which directions are wrong for us, and it helps us stay the course no matter the strength of the storms around us.
-
The pursuit of purpose is integral to our human experience. It motivates us to pursue our goals and fulfill our life's mission or reason for being. This journey can bring a sense of fulfillment, joy, and meaning to our lives, and positively impact the world around us.
-
Our major purpose is to grow. A white belt mentality is essential to this journey, meaning we embrace a beginner's mindset, stay open to new ideas, and view challenges as opportunities. We must step outside our comfort zone, take risks, and accept constructive criticism. By committing to continuous growth, we can achieve our goals, realize our full potential, and reach new heights in our lives. It takes dedication and perseverance to maintain a white belt mentality, but it is the key to unlocking success.
-
Balance is a vital concept in life, and achieving it can lead to greater happiness and fulfillment. The Tao teaches us true harmony comes from the balance of these opposing energies. It is essential to find a balance between work and play, rest and activity, solitude and social interaction, and many other aspects of life. When we achieve balance, we feel a sense of calm and inner peace, which allows us to be more present in the moment and connect more deeply with ourselves and others.
-
Creativity allows us to express ourselves and tap into our unique talents and passions. When we engage in creative pursuits, we enter a state of flow, where time seems to stand still, and we become completely immersed in the present moment. This state of flow can be incredibly fulfilling, providing a sense of purpose and meaning.

Budo is the way of the warrior in the martial arts, embodying principles of honor, discipline, and service. A true warrior understands their abilities are meant to serve others, inspiring positivity and service within their community. The practice of budo teaches us that true strength comes from putting the needs of others before our own, creating a better world for all.
Where Joy Jitsu Began…
We are the founders of Budo Brothers, a martial art lifestyle company that has afforded us the opportunity to travel the world and meet with martial arts masters from all backgrounds. As we share our own experiences and those of these martial artists, we have discovered a vast global community of like-minded individuals. Regardless of the martial art practiced or location, mental training and mindset are fundamental aspects of martial arts. At the highest levels, mental practices are even more critical than physical skills. That is why we created Joy Jitsu – to emphasize the importance of joy as a key element of a fulfilling life, which must be trained every day. The concept came to life during an episode of the Budo Brothers podcast with host and future writer or the Joy Jitsu book David Badurina:

“Joy Jitsu is a powerful martial art that we created as a way to help guide others in living life to the fullest. To make Joy Jitsu into a practical art form, we dug deep into the principles of the warriors - both ancient and current. We absorbed the lessons of many different disciplines and philosophies to bring this idea into the real world.” - Budo Brothers
What We Have Accomplished…
In its nascent form, Joy Jitsu aimed to proliferate joy by enabling individuals to embark on their martial arts journey. We accomplished this through two approaches: first, by hosting seminars and events that focused on self-improvement, featuring top-tier martial artists in the industry. Second, we utilized profits from our business, Budo Brothers, along with event proceeds to provide funding for children to initiate their martial arts training. Here are some of the events we threw:
THE BUDO YOUTH FUND
The Budo Youth Fund began with us volunteering our time at our local dojo. We saw the powerful effect that martial arts had on children and decided to create a non-profit so that using 10% of the profits from Budo Brothers we could reach more people.
BATTLE FIELD STRATEGIES FOR BUSINESS
Sifu Singh was gracious enough to donate his speaker fee and help us raise over $10,000 for the registered non-profit Budo Youth Fund. We are now accepting grant applications to help underprivileged youth enroll in martial arts through grant funding. Tune in to watch the transformations take place!
MICHELLE WATERSON CHARITY SEMINARS
We hosted UFC superstar in Calgary, AB for two mind-blowing charity seminars. Both were family events that showcased the power of Martial Arts and helped us to raise $10,000 for the IncredAble Adaptive MMA program.
